Gold Fingerprinting

The TSW Analytical Forensic Science team has extensive experience in the investigation of gold-related criminal activity; from investigations into stolen gold to suspected gold salting and substitution allegations. These tasks have been completed on numerous occasions at the request of law enforcement agencies and gold producers internationally. The gold fingerprinting technology was first developed in the early 1990s by Professor John Watling, Scientific Director of TSW Analytical and has since been applied all over the world.

What can we do?
With a carefully designed scientific investigation it is possible to trace stolen or allegedly stolen gold back to its mine of origin. This is achieved by chemically fingerprinting the gold and comparing it to a large database of gold material from known origins. This fingerprinting is undertaken using cutting edge mass spectrometric techniques. With this technology we have successfully proven that gold submitted was in fact stolen, assisted in the prosecution of gold thieves and returned the gold to the correct owner.

If you suspect gold salting or some other illegal activity we might be able to help.

Asset Protection
Although we are experts in linking stolen gold with is source we have also designed some technology which helps protect the asset. This technology forms part of our Au Trace program which complements your existing gold security. To find out more about gold trace click here Autrace

Gold Exploration
Although the main use for the gold fingerprinting technology is in gold theft investigations it can also be used to help with gold exploration with the technology able to profile the mineral deposit which the gold originated.
